Wireless Irrigation Keeps Training Pitches Playable
LWS Irrigation and MG Turf provide rapid LoRa-based solution after underground wiring faults disconnect five pitches from existing irrigation system
When multiple faults in the underground wiring system left five football pitches at Derby County’s training ground disconnected from their existing irrigation system, the grounds team faced a major challenge – particularly during the height of summer.
With the pitches requiring daily irrigation simply to maintain the grass and keep the playing surfaces fit and playable, the Head Groundsman had been forced to manually open irrigation valves in rotation throughout the evening. While this provided a temporary solution, it was extremely time-consuming and far from efficient.
Looking for a more practical and reliable solution, the club contacted MG Turf, who in turn looked to LWS Irrigation for an alternative approach.
Matt Gilkes of MG Turf remembered that LWS had recently introduced a new irrigation control system based on LoRa wireless technology, supplied by French manufacturer Solem, which specialises in connected irrigation control equipment.
